Tongji University actively expands its international cooperation. Based on the cooperation with Germany, Tongji University has focused on cooperation with Europe, expanded cooperation with North America and covered Asia and Africa.It has established 12 international cooperation platforms, such as China-Germany, China-France, China-Italy, China-Finland and China-Spain cooperation platforms as well as cooperation with the United Nations. It has signed cooperation agreements with more than 200 overseas universities and established research centers with many multinational companies such as Volkswagen, Siemens, Bayer and IBM. Tongji University initiated and established the China Green University Network and the International Green Campus Alliance and served as the first chairman. It was also elected as the chairman of the Global Universities Partnership on Environment for Sustainability of the United Nations Environment Programme. It is the first university in the Asia-Pacific region to be granted the Global Sustainable Campus Excellence Awards.
